What is type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is a very common but serious condition. In general, 90% of people with diabetes mellitus have type 2 diabetes (that is nine out of 10 people with diabetes). Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose is high because of:

1. Insulin produced by the pancreas does not work properly, or
2. In late stages, not enough insulin is produced, or
3. Both
